Nurse Practitioners Can Now Refer to Specialists

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) can now refer patients directly to a specialist and are able to receive the specialist's advice directly. Until this recent change in the Health Insurance Act, NPs were obliged to submit consult requests to specialists on behalf of a referring physician.

As a referrer you get access to the OTNhub.ca

OTNhub.ca – Ontario’s online telemedicine community – is home to a full range of connected care options including Telederm, eConsult and eVisit (videoconference). Plus, there are ways to stay informed, learn and develop your professional practice.  OTNhub.ca is secure, accessible wherever you are.

Get access to eConsult: specialists in 27 areas of care.

eConsult – which works similar to Telederm – can connect you with a wider range of specialists, from cardiologists and endocrinologists to hematologists and respirologists.   Access to specialist advice has never been more connected!

eConsult is fast. Secure. Convenient. Here’s how it works:

  1. Find and select a specialist from a directory of providers;
  2. Upload images/lab results or patient information from your PC or Mac, to eConsult; and
  3. Receive a specialist’s advice or diagnosis in five days.

We need to hear from you

Why not get a fast, secure, convenient consultation with a dermatologist or specialist for your patients?
