New OTN Agreements

August 19, 2016

Dear Member,

As you may have noticed, OTN has recently launched a number of enhanced products and services to better support your telemedicine practice.  The OTNhub is a streamlined platform offering you easy access to everything you need to provide virtual care to your patients, collaborate with peers and advance professionally.

OTN and partners evaluate digital mental health solution

An OTN-led pilot project is evaluating the impact of an online support community – Big White Wall (BWW) – for people feeling anxious or depressed, or having trouble coping with other mental health-related issues.

OTN and partners test self-management app for type 2 diabetes

An OTN-led pilot project is testing the effectiveness of a diabetes app – BlueStar® -- on outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes.

Funded by Canada Health Infoway and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the pilot kicked off at St. Joseph’s Care Group (Thunder Bay), to be followed shortly by William Osler Health System and North York General Hospital. The pilot supports Ontario’s Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care by focusing on improving access to care, particularly in the home and community.

Platform updates to eConsult and eVisit

OTN is continuing to refine and enrich your experience in the OTN hub . . . so you can find what you need and when you need it, to practice telemedicine.

Since the recent launch of several videoconferencing features, we have conducted usability research with many of you – to determine what you value most in your practice and which features support your use of telemedicine tools and services within the OTNhub.

OTN is introducing changes that will enhance your telemedicine practice!

Recent research with healthcare providers indicates that the way we currently offer products, services, programs and information could be packaged and categorized in a more intuitive way that is simple, easy to understand and could be accessed “on demand”, through one streamlined secure and trusted platform.

We are undertaking several initiatives to offer you more choice, simplicity and control over the telemedicine tools, products and resources that you need and want to support the role you play in the healthcare system.

Nurse Practitioners Can Now Refer to Specialists

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) can now refer patients directly to a specialist and are able to receive the specialist's advice directly. Until this recent change in the Health Insurance Act, NPs were obliged to submit consult requests to specialists on behalf of a referring physician.

As a referrer you get access to the OTNhub.ca
