A new video feature at OTNhub.ca

As of October 23, OTN is excited to include a new invitation feature for all OTNhub.ca members who videoconference from their personal computer.  This new invitation feature will enable video visits across Ontario both IN and OUT of healthcare settings, bringing another level of convenience and choice to collaborate with patients or allied health colleagues who may not be connected to OTN’s video network.

Connecting to patients and peers IN and OUT of healthcare settings

Consider the benefits of a video visit using the new invitation feature:

  • Convenient – Easily connect with colleagues or patients anywhere in Ontario (Hospital, Clinic, Long-Term Care, CCAC, School, Business, or Home) from your PC by simply sending them a secure link from OTNhub.
  • Flexible – You can send an invitation to anyone – participants joining a video visit do not have to be OTNhub members.
  • Simple – Schedule and conduct video visits right from your OTNhub video console freeing up resources to support other areas of healthcare practice.
  • Secure – Like all OTNhub products and services, this new feature is fully encrypted and secure to allow for private and secure video visits.

Video Visit – a viable alternative in your practice

The closest thing to a face-to-face visit with your patient can now be more easily arranged through a video visit on your PC.   Consider patient populations such as the elderly, those in preventative, mental health and chronic disease care where mobility and access to care for the patient is limited – a video visit is a viable alternative for follow-ups or consultations with your patient in specific situations.

It’s also an excellent way to connect with allied health professionals outside of traditional health care settings who support the continuum of care.  Having the flexibility of video visits using the new invitation feature gives OTNhub members more ways to connect and collaborate with peers and patients than ever before!

Information for Physicians:  If you choose to use the invitation feature to video visit using your PC where the patient is in a non-professional setting (home, business and school), please note that a regulated healthcare provider must be present with the patient during the video visit in order to bill OHIP for that event.

How to get started

As of October 23rd, you’ll notice a “Send Invite” button on the left-hand side of your video console.  With a little training, you are ready to go whenever you are.
To better understand how to use the invitation feature and the considerations for a private and secure visit, watch the Video Information Tutorial and read the supporting documents available.
